The IRS mileage rate for business miles increased from 54.5 cents per mile to 58 cents per mile for 2019. Employees can no longer deduct unreimbursed miles on their individual income tax returns. The deduction for unreimbursed employee expenses expired at the end of 2017. If you drive your personal vehicle for work purposes, you may be able to submit the business miles to your employer on an expense report and have them reimburse you. The amount they reimburse is a deduction for your employer and is not taxable income to you.
